CONQUERING MOUNT ST. HELENS is a one-hour special following the fan-favorite family as they conquer life as empty nesters. Now that three of the Roloff kids have moved out, Matt and Amy have a lot of time on their hands. Feeling restless and needing a challenge, Amy conceives a bold idea: to climb Mount St. Helens. It won’t be easy. Over the steep five-mile route, the trail gains 4500 vertical feet, and the most strenuous portions are compounded by boulder fields and shifting volcanic ash. When Amy shares her plan with Matt, he tries to talk her out of doing the climb. But Amy’s undeterred; she enlists Zach to join her, and trains rigorously. Once there, he falls in with the U.S. military, who provides armed escort into the Green Zone - where Matt meets the family and gains their trust.
