Wilbur Pope & his new bride buy their first home together, finding a horse in the attached barn, who exhibits some unusual behaviour, making Wilbur want to keep him. Soon enough, the horse begins talking to Wilbur (and only to Wilbur). This pilot episode, which was not picked up, stars Scott McKay & Sandra Adams. The plot was essentially unchanged for the 2nd pilot attempt, although the cast (including the horse) was replaced.

Ed is opposed to a gift that Wilbur received. It is a bearskin rug and Wilbur refuses to get rid of it until is gets up to chase him.

Ed decides that he only wants to be ridden bareback and does not want Wilbur to use a saddle on him, so Wilbur then goes and rents a motorcycle.
